The I Corps Tactical Zone was the northernmost region of the South Vietnam, bordering with North Vietnam. This was the operating area of the III Marine Amphibious Force comprised of the 3rd Marine Division and the 1^st Marine  Division from 1965 to 1971. These five provinces are Quang Tri Province, (Khe Sanh, Dong Ha, Quang Tri City), Thua Thien-Hue Province, (Phu Bai, Hue City), Quang Nam Province, (Danang, Hoi An), Quang Tin Province, (Tam Ky, Chu Lai) and Quang Ngai Province, (Quang Ngai). Its northern border was the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) with North Vietnam; National Highway 9 ran along it. On the west, it bordered Laos and areas of the Ho Chi Minh trail. Additional units served in I corps during the war including numerous Army, aviation, logistic, communication and support units.

Come back to walk the places that profoundly shaped the rest of his life 45 years ago--- places that have deep meaning for him --- places with names like: Green Beach, Hill 43, LZ’s Red, White, & Blue, An Cuong as well as other sites such as Hoi An, Hanoi, Khe Sanh, Dong Ha, the Rockpile, Route 9 & Hwy 1, Hue City, Con Thien, Leatherneck Square, Da Nang, An Hoa, the Que Sons, China Beach, the Hai Van Pass, and many, many more.
